I first became interested in adventuring at an early age after trekking in Nepal with my dad. Leaving the Himalayas left me hungry for further exploration. Since then I have been fortunate enough to explore parts of the world that I would never have expected to end up in. Personal highlights have included trekking and kayaking in the parks of Western Canada as well as fishing on the Amazon. However, there is still plenty of ground to cover, places to see and mountains to climb.
Studying at Edinburgh University I’m well situated for outdoor pursuits. The Scottish Highlands are easily accesible and close enough to visit for a weekend break. The area is renowned for its fishing, hiking and general outdoor explorations. In the longer breaks which I have, such as those for summer and Christmas, I am able to venture further afield, further from my comfort zone.
I am aware that I will probably not continue to play the team sports which have kept me busy through much of school. It is partly because of this realisation that I am eager to pursue adventure travel as its an excellent way of exploring places with like-minded friends whilst getting some exercise. The only shame is that there’s only so much time to adventure. As the former US astronaut Frank Borman rightly said, “Exploration is really the essence of the human spirit.”
