Nestled in the heart of Scotland’s Cairngorm mountain range, Reindeer Cottage is a great base for outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore this wild part of the UK. The cottage is built from traditional, locally sourced stone that brings a warm cosiness to a remote location.
The cottage is built on two levels, with two bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom with shower, living room and kitchen downstairs. Altogether, there are four single beds and one double, sleeping a total of six people. In the garden there is a summer house kitted out with a sauna and a Canadian Hot Tub, as well as a BBQ for the warmer months.
The cottage is fairly priced. Starting at £115 per night for a couple and £24 for persons three and four. Persons 5 and 6 go for £12 per night and taking the cottage for one night with six people costs a total of £187 (see site for multiple night tariffs). While the lodge can sleep 6, bed 5 is a pull out bed in the twin room and bed 6 is a spare bed in the lounge. While sleeping 6 can be a bit of a squeeze, making the most of the lodge’s location in the Cairngorms is what it’s all about.
Near to the cottage is a small loch where you can fish on purchase of a local permit. There are rolling paths and more challenging munroes surrounding the cottage, three miles out of Aviemore and away from the traffic. Check out Magnetic Junction’s blog on adventures in Aviemore for more activities in the area.
