Ross McEwen

Some of my first memories are of careering, on two very small skis, down a wind-swept mountainside somewhere in the Scottish Highlands.  To this day I still remember the elation of reaching the bottom whilst remaining vertical.  It may have been a 20 metre patch of ice, and I may have been battling the wind more than gravity in my quest to stay upright, but it’s that same adrenaline rush that draws me to the mountains to this day.

I’ve been lucky enough to indulge my passion for powder on both sides of the Atlantic.  I spent my gap year becoming a BASI instructor in Zermatt below the imperious, monolithic Matterhorn; the true talisman of central Europe.  Skiing on the crevasse-ridden Kleine Matterhorn Glacier was a unique thrill, but I’ve also enjoyed bluebird days in Utah, spring powder in Maine and being breathless and blinded at 4000 metres hiking in the clouds in Colorado.  From the narrow pistes of the quintessentially Alpine Zermatt, to the motorway groomers of North America; skiing offers an abundance of adventure.

I was drawn to Magnetic Junction as it caters to my interests in innovative trips and gear.  I’m fortunate enough to enjoy long holidays at university, and I’m always looking for an interesting way to fill them.  Be it a weekend jaunt, or a summer adventure, Magnetic Junction looks to provide something exciting and novel to do.

When I’m not in the outdoors, I read law at The University of Edinburgh.
