During my childhood growing up in the Ochil Hills I developed a love of two things: hills and sport. With such easy access to the outdoors and a running coach in the family, I suppose its not surprising that my earliest memories are of nature and running with the dogs in the hills. Even though now I’m a little older and more pressed for time, I have no intention of slowing up.

In my teenage years I enjoyed competing in cross country and track events as well as hockey, swimming and tennis. A year abroad in Oslo across 2009/10 with my university provided fantastic opportunities to get involved in the “fridrett” (running) club and take on the winter 5km and 10km racing circuit. As soon as the snow fell the XC skis were on and I was out on tracks in the woods almost every day – a superb workout in beautiful scenery just outside the city.

Now back in Edinburgh I’ve got stuck into cross-country training and competing full-time, with some triathlon training thrown in to improve my cycling. My next aim is to compete in a Genghis Khan Grassland Marathon in Inner Mongolia, a long way from home and a serious challenge.

When not doing sport I am reading the Legal Diploma at Edinburgh University.  Come September it is into the big wide world of work but I hope to fit in training runs for a long time yet.
